Course Description

Theoretical component: 50%
Practical component: 50%

This training is intended for workers who are required to operate in hazardous atmospheres or who must wear a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or a supplied-air system.
It aims to develop the skills needed to safely inspect, use, and maintain this equipment in accordance with CSA requirements and recognized best prevention practices.
At the end of the training, participants will be able to use an SCBA independently, apply safety procedures during confined space operations, and respond appropriately in the event of equipment failure or emergency situations.

Training objectives:

  • Understand applicable regulations, professional responsibilities, and current standards
  • Identify the components and operation of an SCBA and a supplied-air system
  • Carry out visual and functional inspections prior to use
  • Don, adjust, and use the equipment in accordance with established safety procedures
  • Respond effectively to air supply failure, leaks, or incidents
  • Ensure proper maintenance, cleaning, and storage of the equipment

  • Description and operation of the different types of equipment
  • Equipment inspection and maintenance
  • Usage factors and limitations of an SCBA
  • Supplied-air systems: principles and components
  • Donning, troubleshooting, and intervention methods
  • Hands-on exercises under simulated conditions
  • Theoretical and practical evaluation

Prerequisites
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be in good physical condition (mobility, ability to work in confined positions, etc.)

The second floor is used as a classroom, and a separate cafeteria is available to participants during breaks.
